Rampant - Diana Peterfreund

RampantRampant

Synopsis
Everything you know about Unicorns is wrong. Beautiful creatures of magic and love? Nope! Blood thirsty beasts who want to eat you and all of your friends? Yes!
Unicorns were hunted to extinction a long time ago by virginal hunters descended from Alexander the Great. Or so those crazy enough to believe the myths (like Astrid's mom) think. Then, one night, as Astrid's boyfriend is trying to put the moves on her, again, he is gored by a white creature with a single horn. Terrified, she calls her mother who brings the last of the magical Remedy and heals the poisonous unicorn wound. The reemergence of unicorns sets Astrid on a path that will help her discover her courage, her destiny, and her love.

Review
I lost sleep over this book. It was so engagingly written that I stayed up all night reading it, and then was almost late to work the next day when I picked it up again. While I was occasionally reminded a bit too much of Buffy the Vampire slayer, I thought that the premise was unusual enough to overcome that. I choose to believe that there are no overtones preaching abstinence, simply an exploration of a girl's choice about a destiny laid out before her.

My Recommendation
Read it, enjoy it. It's an easy, but engaging read!
