Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2Though the movie starts out with a fair amount of flash and bang, including Tony Stark’s brash statement of “I successfully prototyped world peace”  to a federal panel, I still found the first half hour to be pretty slow going. My interest began to be tickled when Scarlett came on screen. She was the highlight of the movie.
The emotional journey of a cocky man reduced to ashes and rising like a phoenix  that made Tony Stark so appealing in the first movie is sorely missing in the sequel. Instead you are left with a man making pompous statements that should be funny but simply fall flat.
His fight on the race track against  Ivan Vanko felt like a strange homage to Rocky IV, and Tony’s later conversation with Russian guy began to felt like the opposite plot to the 300. As always, it’s nice to see Americans sabotaging peace and causing global conflict.
This movie feels more like a fan flick, throughout the movie I felt like I needed to have Wikipedia on hand to research the new characters to figure out who they were.
Here are some random thoughts that I had while watching the movie:
·         Good to know that physicists can hack any system with a simple MSDos prompt.
·         Ivan barrels into the plot like a bull in a china shop, while Scarlett’s storyline insinuates its self seamlessly.
·         I do have to say that just because a man is black does not mean he’s interchangeable. Poor Warmachine seems to have lost his sense of humor when he was in the accident that resulted in his total body transplant….
·         I love that they introduced Warmachine with a game of Rock ‘em Sock ‘em  Robots via Tin Can phone.
·         Warmachine fortunately doesn’t suffer from the learning curve that Iron Man did. He is fully functioning and able to fly with precision his first time in the suit.
My recommendation:
It’s not really worth a $10 ticket. Rent it.
